About Dr. Courtney Hunt

Dr. Courtney Hunt — OB/GYN and founder of Genetic Protocol — has spent over two decades decoding the connection between hormones, metabolism, and mitochondrial health. Through her work with thousands of women, she has studied the biological patterns that precede dysfunction — from insulin signaling and estrogen context to light exposure, nutrient timing, metabolic stress, and circadian disruption. Why I Created the Intro to Light, Mitochondria & DNA Journey

Over the years, I began noticing a pattern. Many women struggling with low energy, brain fog, hormonal imbalance, skin issues, and chronic inflammation were doing everything they were told to do — eating clean, supplementing, exercising, tracking labs — yet something fundamental was still missing. What they were rarely taught was how light actually works inside the body. The human body evolved under the sun. Our mitochondria, our hormones, our skin, our DNA — all of it was calibrated to a specific spectrum of natural light delivered at specific times of day. But most people now spend over 90% of their lives indoors, disconnected from the very signal their biology depends on.
 

When the body begins to reconnect with natural light at the right times of day, it begins using that light as information — to time hormones, regulate inflammation, generate energy, and instruct DNA. Yet most people are never taught how light communicates with their cells or how to begin restoring that connection in a way that's safe, structured, and based on real biology.
